What is Public Relations?

Public RelationsBasically, public relations is the information transfer system between an organization and public. Briefly it is called PR, and PR is a nonstop duty, an organization consistently tries to keep in contact with possible public figures, costumers, buyers, and the organization aims to keep a consistent and successful relationship with public. There are good and bad times of every organization, the duty of public relations department during both these times trying to balance positive and negative sides, this department deals with directly public, press, and organization.

 


Importance of Public Relations
Public relations is a currently popular field, it is an old field but it gained importance only recently. As it became more and more important, new specialization fields emerged. Organizations separated the PR department as internal and external ones, they can be named differently by different organizations, but the idea is the same. While internal one deals with organization, employers and products, the other one deals with consumers, press etc.

Think public relations as an art, it is a way of serving product and making your consumers feel satisfied and happy. With good public relations an organization becomes stronger, advertisement and marketing departments are supported, the plans of organization comes true, briefly both the seller and the buyer are content with the product, idea.

Ways used for Public Relations
Public relations uses different ways to reach its goal, to reach public. First of all, written tools are used, newspaper, magazines, books, bulletins, posters, reports, interviews are suitable ways for public relations. In addition to these, television, radio, movies, CD, internet and other audiovisual things are widely used in this department. Competitions, fairs, meetings, conferences, symposiums, festivals, and sponsorship are other ways used for public relations. While choosing a way, experts should look for the availability of it, its effectiveness. It should also be permanent and be suitable for reader or audience profile.

Public Relations in different fields
Nowadays, public relations became more important and with this change, PR also became an inseparable part of many fields. It is a supportive department of marketing organizations, civil associations, schools, companies, groups, state establishments and some other fields. For all these fields, there is not an exact product, for instance in school there is public relations department and it is used to have a good relationship with parents. Every day, new fields are added to this list.

Public Relations – Advertising – Journalism – Communications
Public relations, advertising, journalism and communications are all different disciplines; however they are closely related to each other. A new product is produced, firstly it should be presented to press, public, then there is advertisement part, and journalism and communications department support these. If one of them fails, the main goal can not be achieved, they are so closely bound to each other.
