Fiji is a country located in Oceania. The official name of the country is the Republic of Fiji Islands. It is an islands country. Pacific Ocean surrounds the country. More than 300 islands and 500 islets are found in the area. From little to the big ones, all these land parts form the Republic of Fiji Islands.
The area is an old inhabitation. Before European people, Fiji was inhabited by other people even in 1 BC. However, permanent settlements date back to 17th century. The area was controlled by several different countries. Lastly, it declared its independence from United Kingdom in 1970. The official languages of Fiji Islands are English, Bau Fijian and Hindustani. Less than a million people live in the country. Fijian people, European, Chinese, other Asian people and the others make up the population. In the country, there are Christians, Muslims and people from other religions and beliefs.
Fiji Islands have rich and diverse nature. It is rich with forests, mineral sources and fish types. Its economy is well developed. Two sectors bringing money to the country are tourism and sugar exportation. Every year more than 300.000 tourists visit Fiji Islands.
