The national airline of Turkey is Turkish Airlines, THY, the center of it is Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul. Esenboga Airport in Ankara and Sabiha Gökcen in Istanbul are minor airports of Turkish Airlines.
Establishment of Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines was established in 1933 with three destinations Istanbul, Eskisehir, and the capital city of Turkey Ankara. Beginning with three planes, the company enlarged its fleet by putting external and domestic lines. However the first external flight was succeeded only in 1940 to Athens.
Both airlines and public owns Turkish Airlines, as some amount of it was sold to public, it is a good way for investment as THY is a strong establishment. After year 2000, foreign partners joined the Turkish Airlines family; SunExpress and Lufthansa hold the some rights of the company.
Being accepted as a member of Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance, Turkish Airlines shows its quality. It was accepted as a member in April, 2008.

With 105 planes, Turkish Airlines is a rich and strong airline establishment. Beginning with just three planes, it is story of success and development. Now, Airbus and Boeing planes form the fleet of Turkish Airlines.

Turkish Airlines has cooperation service agreement, codeshare agreement with other Airlines, SunExpress, Air China, Luthansa, Asian Airlines, Syrian Arab Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Air Malta, Austrian Airlines and Egypt air.
