Bodrum is not a city; it is just a port town of city Mugla in Turkey. However it is more famous than many other cities. Located in the Aegean Sea, it has a long historical background. The former name of the area is Halicarnassus. The first inhabitation in the town goes back to 7th century.
Bodrum town is just 115 kilometers away from city centre. The area does not have high mountains and you can see endless fields. The climate is warm both during winter and summer. In summer the weather is hot and dry while in winter it is warm and rainy, however the winter days are also beautiful in this place and winter days are nor harsh. Forests surround Bodrum. More than half of it is covered with unique plantation and trees.
Economy in Bodrum varies, but tourism is the main source of income. Along with this, people earn money from sponge diving and fishing. For a few years, a new field emerged. It is estate investment. Estate investment provides economical income. As time passes, more and more people wonder about Bodrum. They began to settle down and buy house. It is a town of Turkey but population consists of Turkish and foreign people from all over the world. When foreign people began to settle, this new sector emerged. The population of town rises with summer days. There are people living here all year, and summer months bring more tourist and settlers.
Transportation is easy with an airport in Mugla which hosts and sends lots of people during the whole year. In the city rent a car options, sea transportation, bus and other services are available.
Activities in Bodrum
The symbol of the town Bodrum is Bodrum castle. It was built in 14th century. The catle is a rich historical spot, and you can also visit Museum of Underwater Archeology there. The museum presents the discoveries from underwater, ancient shipwrecks from Aegean Sea.
Diving and yachting are popular things in this beautiful port town, Bodrum. There are organizations, tours for these activities. If you are interested, you should certainly join these.
