Tourism: New Wonders of the World

Wonders of the World is a concept that was applied to natural or human made things, up to our age. From time to time, new wonders of the world were selected. Seven wonders of the ancient world, wonders of the medieval world, wonders of the modern world, natural seven wonders, seven wonders of the underwater world, seven wonders of industrial world, travel wonders of the world, and the latest group which was selected on July, 2007, new seven wonders of the world.
New Seven Wonders of the World
Last year, new Seven Wonders of the World was selected in Portugal. This selection was made with the votes of people via telephone or internet. More than 100 million people voted and the list was renewed.
The candidates for being a wonder of the world were from all over the world. The Acropolis from Greece, Alhambra from Spain, Angkor from Cambodia, Status of Easter Island from Chile, Eiffel Tower from France, Hagia Sophia from Turkey, Kiyomizu Temple from Japan, Kremlin from Russia, Neuschwanstein Castle from Germany, Pyramids of Giza from Egypt, Statue of Liberty from USA, Stonehenge from UK, Sydney Opera House from Australia and Timbuktu from Mali were on the list, however they were not chosen. New Seven Wonders of the World are like below:
Chichen Itza: This site is located in Yucatan State, Mexico. It is a historical site built by Maya civilization. The site consists of palaces, baths, shops and temples. It is interesting that the land of the site belongs to a family named Barbachano.
Christ Redeemer: A famous Jesus Christ statue Christ Redeemer is one the Seven Wonders of the World. The statue is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has a great sight, it is 130 feet tall and the statue is located on a hill, nearly 2300 feet. Christ Redeemer is found important as being a symbol of Christianity.
Colosseum: Colosseum, in other words, the Flavian Amphitheatre is in Rome, Italy. It shows the architectural side of Roman Empire. It is predicted that Colosseum was built in 70 – 80 AD.
Taj Mahal: A mausoleum built and completed in 1648. Taj Mahal is located in Agra, India. It is a masterpiece because the mausoleum combines the architectural elements of Persia, Turkey and India.
Great Wall of China: Great Wall of China was built in order to protect the country from attacks. The wall is located in China, the building period was long and it was built between 6th BC and 16th century.
Petra: Petra is an archeological site in Arab States, Jordan. It is ironic that the site was not discovered by West until early years of 19th century. After discovery of it, world gave great importance to Petra archeological site.
Machu Picchu: An Inca site Machu Picchu is located in Peru. It is found on the top of a mountain and building date goes to the 15th century.
