Broadway is the most famous theatre of the world. It is the 39 different professional theatres located in New York, United States of America. Broadway is also an avenue of Manhattan. In this street, theatre plays and musicals are very popular. They are so popular that the musical art of America is associated with the title “Broadway”.
In 18th century, theatre was experiencing difficult days. There were not enough theatre buildings and there were strict regulations about theatre. Despite everything, New York has been always a centre of culture and art. In 21st century, Broadway is still the centre of theatres.
Famous Plays of Broadway
Up to now, many famous plays by important writers were played in Broadway. Some of these famous plays are The Merchant of Venice, The Beggar’s Opera, The Black Crook, El Capitan, A Trip to Chinatown, Little Johnny Jones, The Fortune Teller, The Red Mill, Babes in Toyland, Lady Be Good, Funny Face, Show Boat and many other interesting and important ones.

During the long history of Broadway, many plays were acted for the first time here, fame came after Broadway and many celebrities joined the acting scene here. Nowadays good playas are still going on. You can watch theatre plays in Broadway. In addition to this, from time to time tours are held for Broadway plays. Unfortunately, these are only within the country. There are not international tour programs. However, if you follow the schedule, you can have the chance of watching a Broadway play in another city rather than New York.

Broadway is such a big organization that it has its own awards for players. Every June Tony Awards are given to the artists and shows. It has become more popular after the popularity of TV. People looked for a way to keep audience’s attention. It is a fact that awards catch people’s attention and more and more people come to Broadway.
