Greek MythologyGreek mythology is about the ancient Greek gods, goddesses, heroes and heroines, it was created in oral literature and spread. Now we have the written form of mythology but it was originally oral and it came to our age from person to person.

Mythology of Greek was influenced by other myths, stories, genres, clear Near East mythologies impact can be seen on it, and it also affected the other world mythologies, Roman mythology was deeply affected by Greek one.

 

  


Greek Gods
Greek mythology is based on 12 gods who sit on the Mount Olympus. They are called Olympians and these twelve Olympians are Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Heracles, Demeter, Hestia, Aphrodite, Artemis, Ares, Athena, Hermes and Hephaestus. Zeus is head of them.

Six men and six women gods control the world from this mountain. The management of the world was separated three parts: the sky by Zeus, the seas by Poseidon, and the underworld by Hades.

In addition to these twelve gods, there are other gods and goddesses; Hecate, Hebe, Pan, Iris, Helios, Dionysus, Gaia are other important Greek mythology figures.

These Greek gods have creation myths but they do not get older, they are protected against nearly all illnesses, they can not be seen by other if they wish, every god is master of something and they look different.

Zeus
In Greek mythology, Zeus is the head of the gods, he is the king god. Zeus is one of the Olympians and he sit at the top of the Mount Olympus. He is god of thunder and sky, while Poseidon is responsible for sea, and Hades for underworld, Zeus is responsible for sky.

Greek Mythology and Literature
Mythology and Greek mythology are great sources for literature, mythology takes its roots from centuries ago, and we still use elements of it in literature, theatre, movies, art. Iliad and Odyssey by Homer are two masterpieces in which many Greek mythological elements. Ancient poems “The Epic Cycle” and “The Theban Cycle” also tell mythological stories. Many other ancient and modern works on mythology can be found by different authors or anonymous writers.

Greek Mythology and Film Industry
Mythology is a rich source for movies, there are many old and new films based on Greek mythology. The most famous of them are Hercules, Clash of Titans, Odissea, Ulysses, Troy, Jason and Argonouts, Orfeu and many other movie and series.

Greek Mythology and Art
Myths, heroic stories, legends, great gods and goddesses gave inspiration to the artists. The works of Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo have the impact of Greek mythology, many paintings, sculptures tell mythical stories.
