Flying with Alitalia Airlines

Alitalia is an Italian airline company. The main airport of Alitalia is Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome, Italy. Along with that, Malpense International Airport and Linate Airport are used as minor hubs.
Establishment of Alitalia
Alitalia was established in 1946. The name comes from Aeroline Italiane Internazionali, but combination of these words “Alitalia” is used more frequently. Italian Ministry of Treasury, Air France and employees own the company. Since 2001, Alitalia is a member of SkyTeam Alliance.
After its foundation, Alitalia Express was established. Alitalia Express has flights to some regions of Italy and world. In addition to this, Express part has charter flights. Like many other airline companies, Alitalia had economical difficulty. Especially after year 2000, the crisis period began for the company. Alitalia was having difficulty in paying salaries of employers, salary cut, job cut was inevitable. Taking loan from government did not bring welfare. When there was no development, privatization period began for Alitalia. Most of the company was sold to Air France- KLM. However, the agreement is no longer valid. After being sold to Air France, union and government did not make a common decision. At last, in 2008, Air France announced the withdrawn of the agreement.
The financial problem has not been solved up to now. Italian government gave loan to Alitalia. There are still ideas about privatization. The situation is ambiguous and waits a solution.
Fleet of Alitalia
Alitalia Airlines has one of the most powerful fleet in flight world. It has more than 140 planes. Airbus models dominate the fleet. However, there are also ATR, Boeing, Embraer, and McDonnell models.

Alitalia Airlines has domestic, international flight services. It also has cargo destinations. In Italy, it has more than 25 domestic flights. External destinations include approximately 70 points.
