Establishment and a Brief History of British Airways
British Airways was founded in 1974. After World War I, airline companies faced with many difficulties. Some survived, some bankrupted, some came together and the others formed other airlines. British Airways was founded like that, flights began and British Airways owned some other airlines. In 1974, combination of different airlines formed the current British Airways.


After 1980s, privatization was waiting for British Airways. There were economical problems, and the company had to profit. British Airways experienced a total renewal, from logo to working conditions, many things changed.

In 1990s, British Airways was using the slogan “The World’s Favorite Airline”. It was one of the most important airlines of the world. After economical crisis of 1990s, oil prices increased, money loss and some other factors brought problem to British Airways. When millennium was approaching, the company was relieved a little bit. Even new planes were ordered.  The economical situation continued like that for years. In 2004, some percent of the company was sold and debts were paid off. After hard times, the greatest job of British Airways done is Heathrow Terminal 5.

British Airways’ fleet consists of more than 230 planes. New ones are added to this great fleet. Airbus and Boeing models dominate the fleet. Airbus A318, A319, A320, A321, A380-800, and Boeing 737-300, 737-400, 737-500, 747-400, 752-200, 767-300ER, 777-200, 777-200ER, 777-300ER, 787-8 and 787-9 models are available.
