2008 Summer Olympic Games in China

The 2008 Summer Olympic Games will be held between the dates August 8 and August 24, 2008 in Beijing, China. Slogan of the games is “One World, One Dream”. The games aim a united world. The logo is “Dancing Beijing”. It is a traditional red Chinese seal, below it “Beijing 2008” is written and at the bottom there are Olympic rings.
In 2001, the decision was taken about where 2008 Summer Olympic Games will be held. Beijing was chosen. Since then, preparations have been continuing. The Olympic torch has been going around nearly 130 days in the world. It visited more than 20 countries and 100 cities.
Teams and Sports
Being an international organization, 2008 Olympic Games will host approximately 10.500 athletes. There are 28 sport branches and 302 events will be held.
Participating countries include Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Georgia, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kenya, South Korea, North Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and many other ones from all over the world.
There will be contests of 28 sport branches. These sports are diving, swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, handball, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, shooting, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.
Broadcasting of Beijing Olympic Games
The latest news of Beijing Olympic Games can be followed from the official website. If you can go and watch the games there, it is the best, but if you can not, there is no option except from watching it on TV. Beijing confirmed to give any permission to the media for broadcasting. Up to now, some minor problems occurred. However, the games will be broadcasted via TV channels all around the world.
Renewal in the City Beijing for Olympics
Olympics is a great organization. It requires easy transportation, suitable sport centers, stadiums, pools, areas, accommodation places… After being selected as hosting city of games, Beijing experienced a great renewal in the whole parts of the city.
First of all, new venues were constructed. For training and games, these venues including national stadium, aquatic centers, sport centers were built. For accommodation of participants Beijing Olympic Village was built.
